We met at work. Little did we know that we'd been working in the same building (different floors) for years. Finally a work conference put us in the same room for three days. During this time, the Astros were in the playoffs. One night during the conference, several Total employees were going to Pitch 25 to watch the game. Having been briefly introduced the night before, Brittany invited Akash to join. After making excuses about being tired (Brittany now realizes that is code for wanting to play video games) and taking care of Moko, Akash said he "might join". Akash arrived fashionably late, just after Brittany's friends almost gave up hope on this impending romance. We hit it off so well that even after the bar closed, we decided to go to House of Pies for dessert and coffee. Before we knew it, the sun was coming up - our cue to get ready for the last day of the conference. Sitting at the conference that morning, we shared a few glances at each other from across the room, secretly knowing how miserably tired we both were. Shortly after we met, Akash was leaving for a three month training program + rotational program in France with Total. Our late night at House of Pies laid the groundwork for many late nights as we did our best to communicate in two different time zones. After several months of audio messages, Facetimes and Instagram videos we were both excited to be back in Houston together - and knew exactly the direction we were headed.
