How We Met

First comes school, then comes marriage

Matthew and I met in high school. I don't remember the exact moment but I do know we used to sit next to one another at lunchtime in the cafeteria. He ate with all the cheerleaders...figures. He would whisper to me how annoying or crazy the different girls we ate with were and I would just sit there and laugh...and probably agree. Then, after he graduated while I was still a Senior, he came to my class with the other Marine recruiters to discuss with us the option of going into the military, which started some huge ordeal because of course I asked if I could be a sniper....I couldn't. A couple of years later I ran into Matthew at Fudruckers while I was at dinner with my boyfriend. He came up to me and asked for my number and of course I gave it to him because as I told my then boyfriend, "hes just a friend from high school"...he texted me that night, "hey cutie"....I still laugh about that. A couple of years after that, Matt messaged me out of the blue and told me to download the app "Snapchat" a new application that allowed you to send picture messages to people that quickly disappear right after. I was like, "why the heck would I ever want a useless thing like that". We were then snapchat best friends for years...what did we even take pictures of? Mostly just me stuck in traffic or complaining about school and him in California. Anyway, after several attempts to pick me up in his swag wagon (inside joke) We both moved back to Angleton and hit it off thanks to our common love of watching football games at Buffalo Wild Wings, staying out way too late at Shadys, and enjoying nights out in Midtown. Somewhere between the beers and nights out we fell in love.

Our Engagement

First comes a helicopter ride and then come a ring....DUH!

Lets be honest, I knew the engagement was coming. I mean, not only did we live together and have a baby, plus talk about marriage all. the. time.. but Matthew told me WEEKS in advance that I needed to get a new outfit together and have my nails done for our date that he had planned all by himself. Because ya know, guys just do that all the time. So, on June 3rd Matthew and I took off for Galveston and spent the day on the strand, bar hoping as we enjoyed the nice summer weather on different outdoor decks that overlooked the ocean. Finally it was our "take off time" and we headed for Matt's secret location....still not the least bit obvious. I have always wanted to go on a helicopter ride, and in fact I was supposed to go in Vegas right before I found out I was pregnant...So as we drive up to this helicopter business, I am just thinking, oh my gosh I am glad I had all those margaritas (for extra courage) and yasss, this was the perfect bucket list engagement. We drive up to this chopper and the wind is going crazy, and its super loud and we climb on up, and within seconds without much instruction or really any words exchanged with the pilot we are just flying around the harbor and ship channel taking in the different sights of the city. By that point we already had people messaging us asking if we were engaged so it was kinda like, okay this is for sure going to happen, and as soon as we landed, it did. It was short, sweet, and to the point and it was perfect. and the ring was perfect. and the guy holding it was...you guessed it, perfect. We got back to the truck and I was like, "what did you even say?" It was so loud from the helicopter and I was so nervous from the realness of the moment that I just kinda stood there and smiled. #hotmess We spent the rest of the night at our favorite restaurant in Houston and then went on to Midtown where together we just took in the moment by ourselves.
