Question

What is Portugal known for?

Answer

Its rich history, beautiful beaches, delicious food, wine production, and friendly culture.

Question

Does my airport have a direct flight to Lisbon?

Answer

There are direct, non-stop red-eye flights to Lisbon from the following U.S. Airports: JFK, Newark, Boston, Philadelphia, Dulles, and Miami.

Question

How much does a flight cost?

Answer

Prices vary significantly depending on what airport you depart from, what days you leave/arrive, baggage options, etc. We have found that the typical range for an economy roundtrip flight is between $700 and $1,500.

Question

It's my first time in Europe, how should I prepare?

Answer

This link is Rick Steve's checklist of things to do before embarking on your European vacation. Please note that we will provide additional information regarding hotels & transportation on our "Travel" page. https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/trip-planning/travel-checklist

Question

I'm traveling with kids - how should I prepare?

Answer

See this blog from a family with their recommendations on how to make the most of your trip to Portugal with small children. https://www.kierstenbrooke.com/what-i-wish-i-knew-before-traveling-portugal-with-kids/

Question

We're extending our trip. Any recommendations for things to do?

Answer

So fun! And yes, see our "Things to Do" page on this website for the sights and places we recommend.

Question

Will there be a difficult language barrier?

Answer

Most people in Lisbon and Estoril can speak English. While Portuguese is the official language of Portugal, English is considered the second unofficial language of Lisbon. However, it doesn't hurt to learn a few phrases to connect with the friendly locals. It is quite different from Spanish - so don't assume that the languages are the same. Examples: Bom dia. (Good Morning.) Você fala inglês? (Do you speak English?) Por favor. (Please.) Obrigado. (Thank you.)

Question

Is Portugal safe?

Answer

Generally, Portugal is regarded as one of the safest European countries (including it's cities). But, just like every tourist area in Europe, there is a population of pick-pocketers. So, keep track of your personal valuable items when you are walking around. There are two tourist police stations in the areas where we will be staying for the wedding events. That information can be found at the below link: https://www.safecommunitiesportugal.com/psp-lisbon-tourism-support/

Question

What if I have more questions not answered here?

Answer

Please submit any additional questions here. We will be fielding them directly, or adding the answers to this page if we think it would benefit everyone. https://forms.gle/SrVpbEMGw1jNqMZW9
