On Labor Day weekend in 2015, Brittany was in Las Vegas for a Bachelorette party and Matt was there with a group of guy friends for the long weekend. While Matt’s group was waiting in line at Marquee day club, Brittany and her group walked up to the front of the line. Matt asked if they would be able to join them, and they surprisingly said yes. Talk about a great icebreaker to talk to 5 women! From there, the two groups decided to hang out throughout the pool party and at one point asked Brittany to take a group photo of the boys since no one else had their phones on them. After the photo was taken, she sent it to one of Matt's friends, which secured a phone number exchange. From there we all tried to get together that night but were unsuccessful and both parties went their separate ways, thinking they would never see each other again (I mean it is Vegas after all). The following day, Brittany and her friends went to the pool party at their hotel, Tao day club, and without coordination, Matt’s group was there too (some might call that serenedipitous)! After the first day was such a good time, they all hung out again. When everyone was leaving, Matt and Brittany talked for just a tiny amount of time before being pulled in each direction to follow the groups. Having just learned that Brittany lived near San Francisco, Matt realized his best friend David was living there and there might be a way to meet up again (obviously because she was so beautiful and a blast to hang out with ;)). Matt asked for Brittany's number from the friend that received the photo and send her a text a day later that said “Hi Brittany, it’s Matt King. It was so great to meet you, I hope you all made it home safely”. Brittany thought “Wow what a nice guy, he clearly asked for my number from his friend :D”. After texting back and forth daily for 3 months, Brittany invited Matt to her Google Christmas party in San Francisco. But, they both decided, after not seeing each other for 3 months, to hang out the weekend before just to make sure they wanted to pursue this further. Both got the nervous jitters out of the way and had a great time on their first official date, which solidified the Christmas Party! From there, they spent time visiting each other back and forth in California and Arizona until February when they decided to make things official and commit to doing long distance between Tucson and The Bay Area. After 4 successful years of long distance and traveling the world together, Matt started to think this might be the one…
In September 2019, Brittany had a work event in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We decided this would be a great opportunity to tack on a Europe trip. I found this to be the perfect opportunity to pop the question. Got some help from Shawn and David riding around Amsterdam all day looking for the best spot. Found multiple till we stumbled upon one that was a walking bridge only with flowers on each side. The day of it was Brittany’s last day of the very long work event, we scheduled a delicious seafood restaurant. At dinner, Brittany actually toasted “to the boys!” which made us all laugh knowing what was happening after dinner. We played off the story of we found a really cool champagne place around the corner we’d like to check out. As Brittany and I made our way closer to the spot, Shawn and David slowly stayed behind while we went onto the bridge, and my nerves really set it. I fumbled my words and made my way down to one knee and she said yes!
