It was 2018, and we were both seniors in high school...at rival schools. Back then, it was totally normal to put your Snapchat username in your Instagram bio, and that's exactly where our story begins. Derek stumbled across Britney's senior photos, and cue the cheesy love story cliché... it was love at first sight (for him, anyway). Without wasting any time, Derek added Britney on Snapchat, and soon they were nonstop talking. Not long after, Derek invited Britney to one of his high school soccer games. Britney worked up the courage to go with a group of friends, but when she got there, nerves hit hard. Derek looked like he was having the time of his life with his friends, and she was too shy to approach him. Her friends weren't exactly captivated by the game and decided they'd rather go to a house party. However, Britney wasn't interested in going and would much rather meet Derek. So, she sent him a Snapchat letting him know she was about to leave. Derek dropped everything, sprinted from the bleachers, and chased Britney down in the parking lot to meet her in person for the very first time. He offered to drive her home, and while most people hear "stranger danger" in their head, Britney decided to take a leap of faith. Now, here's where the plot thickens. Derek's car was completely blocked in on all sides, so he and Britney's friends teamed up to free it. By the time the car was finally unstuck, the game ended, and the parking lot began to clear. Still, Derek offered to drive his friends home first. Britney sat nervously in the front seat, trying to make small talk but struggling... until Marvel came up in the conversation. This was her moment! Britney's knowledge of Marvel saves the day, and suddenly the conversation flowed effortlessly. Once Derek dropped off his friends, he drove Britney back to her hometown. But instead of pulling into the driveway, he kept driving. We spent the next hour just talking, laughing, and getting to know each other. We knew by the time we reached our destination something special had just begun. And the rest, as they say, is history.
