We’ve learned and grown together as early childhood educators, encouraged each other to celebrate life by writing and running, and discussed everything from where we grew up, to complex world affairs, to how we take our donuts. (1984-2021) Kiel became my best friend the moment I touched down in the unsteady waters of junior high. We started our first band and played our first shows together. We talked on the phone and at sleepovers for years about music, feelings, people we admire, hilarious stories, and where we see ourselves in the future. We agreed a quarter century ago that, if we ever do find the one and get married, then it’s a foregone conclusion that we will be in each other’s weddings. Well, our plans haven’t changed. With the support of Kiel’s remarkable family, we will honor my dear friend’s memory and forever save him a place in my wedding party. Thank you for being here in spirit, Kiel. I love you always.
