We were both at crossroads when we met. Britani had just returned home to Charlotte for a fellowship in cardiology after spending almost four years on the West Coast. Billy had just passed the North Carolina bar and was looking to start his career in law. One mid-summer's Saturday, Billy's friend asked if he wanted to come enjoy a few oat sodas by the pool. As luck would have it, Britani lived in the same apartment complex and made similar plans with her long-time friend and roommate. It did not take long until Britani caught Billy's eye, and the two began chatting. Perhaps the slickest move in his life, Billy volunteered for a photo-op of Britani and her friend using his own phone (so he could get her number to send the pictures, duh!). The rest was history. By December, Britani, a seasoned traveler, had persuaded Billy to visit New York City for the first time. The Brooklyn Bridge, although one of many, stood out among the places she showed him. At some point while the two crossed the East River, Billy had an overwhelming realization that, "This is the woman I am going to spend the rest of my life with." He knew in that moment he would propose to Britani the next time they walked across that bridge. Spoiler alert: she said, "yes."
