Local Food Experience & Walking Tour of Tirana

We went on the tour of Tirana by Choose Balkans for Isaac's intro to Albania. We walked the streets learning the history of the city and trying byrek, cheese, olive oil, and honey at the markets. Lunch included some of Bri's childhood favorites. If you are not usually a drinker, ask for the honey raki when you get to the bar.

Skanderberg Square

Massive plaza in the center of town surrounded by many historical sites. Statue of Skanderberg Et'hemBej Mosque Clock tower National History Museum

Dajti Mountain via Cable Car

Take the bus (or a car) from the center of town to the cable car station Dajti Ekspres. Then enjoy the views going up the mountain! When you reach the top, you can go on a hike, have lunch at the restaurant, try the obstacle course, or play mini-golf.

Museums

National History Museum Found in the center of Tirana and adorned with the iconic mosaic. Bunk'art 1 Former nuclear bunker turned into museum towards the outskirts of town. Many guided tours offer a visit to the museum and Dajti Mountain in one trip. House of Leaves The museum of secret surveillance.

Tirana Lake Park

A grand park with an artificial lake in the center. The Zoo and Botanical Garden are also nearby.

Day Trips to Other Cities

Durrës

A coastal city that is nearby, 30-60 min by car depending on traffic. Spend the day on the beach, exploring the town, or visiting a winery!

Krujë

An ancient town filled with history about an hour away. Visit the castle and museum to learn the history and then explore the bazaar for souvenirs.

Berat

A UNESCO Heritage Site that is little over 2 hours away.

Gjirokastër

A UNESCO Heritage site that is a bit farther away. Due to the travel time needed, it is recommend that you plan an overnight stay.
