How We Met

12/31/2021

Love and relationships are complicated, which is why both of us searched for a dating experience that was simple. We met on Match.com, spent New Years Eve 2021 together, and the rest is history!

The Proposal

12/31/2022

Jennifer's Version I thought it might happen on Christmas, because he kept kneeling down to do things the entire day. That was wishful thinking. He proposed on the one year anniversary of the day we met in person for the first time. We ended up at my brother Shaun's house for New Year's Eve. Shaun made up an excuse for us to go down to the pond to see how the fish were attracted to the new lighted structure he built. He brought a cup of cat food to feed them. When he ran out of cat food, he went to get more. I was standing there, looking for fish, and Briley was behind me. When I turned around to tell him I did not see any fish, Briley was down on one knee. He asked if I would marry him and I said "Yes, of course!". Briley's Version When I decided that I was going to propose to Jennifer, I knew it needed to be special and not on Christmas! When we started talking about marriage, I remember her asking me not to do it on that day because it was too cliché. I knew she was expecting it to come soon, because she was aware that I was asking her family and friends for their blessings. After talking with her brother Shaun on Christmas day about some ideas, he brought up New Year’s Eve and how they would be having a few friends over to bring in the new year. I thought to myself, “The one year anniversary of us officially dating, that has to be special, right?” The day after Christmas I went to work. I called Shaun and his wife Wendi. Between the three of us, we planned the special night. I had Wendi talk Jennifer into going to their house for New Year’s Eve. Shaun built this structure and hung lights on it. The minute we drove up Jennifer was like, “What is that?!”. Shaun, being quick witted, told her it was to attract the fish at night. After that, she shrugged her shoulders and the plan was in motion. Midnight was coming. I knew it was going to be difficult to get everyone in position for midnight on the dot, so I decided it needed to be done a few minutes before. Wendi hid under the stairs to the back door, so Jennifer couldn’t see her in the dark. Shaun told Jennifer to come see the fish with the lights. I acted like I was just tagging along. Shaun threw cat food in the water and no fish came. He went back into the house to get more food. Jennifer stayed looking at the water, which is good because the ring fell out of the ring box and into my pocket and I was fighting to put it back together with one hand without her noticing. When I finally got it together and out of my pocket and I was going down to a knee, I realized “Oh my God this is it. It’s happening”. I made it down to a knee, she turned, and all I could get out was “Will You Marry Me?”. To my surprise, she said “Yes, of course!”.
