John and Brigitte tell people they met through their parents - which is somewhat true. John's mom, Marlene, hosts group tours to Italy with her company Gourmet Getaways, and John frequently joins to help Marlene when the group is too large. Brigitte's parents, Fred and Mary Alice, had been on one of these tours before and loved it so much that they planned to go on a second. That fateful tour was to Verona, Italy in the Fall of 2014. Brigitte was invited to come with her parents to be Grandma Joan's roommate and buddy. While they technically met in Newark Airport, John and Brigitte's relationship began in beautiful Verona over wine tastings and historical tours. In a setting that romantic, how could they not fall in love?!
