How We Met

We met in the summer of 2013. It was a hot summer day and I was taking my little brother Caleb to the park. As we were walking, I saw someone who caught my eye passing by on his bike. Shortly after we arrived at the park and we were swinging, Brian and his brother-in-law entered after us and headed towards the playground where they sat on top of the slides. After exchanging awkward eye contact for what felt like an hour, Caleb decided he wanted to get off the swing and play on the playground. Once I set him down, he headed straight towards the slides right where Brian and his cuñado were. The butterflies in my stomach started fluttering, and I felt a nervous sweat coming on as he never broke his gaze staring at me. After Caleb went down the slide a few times, Brian broke the silence. He asked me in Spanish, which I didn't know at the time only the basic words, "Hi how are you", and "What's your name"? Of course, I replied in the little Spanish that I did know, and that's when he asked me another question that I still do not know what he asked to this day. With my mind swept blank I told him I didn't speak Spanish, and with a confused look on his face he changed the dialect to English and we kept talking. It came time to take Caleb home and I asked him if he could meet me back at the park as I did not want to lose our connection. I rushed home, ate dinner, and was back at the park in no time. To my surprise, he came back and decided to bring his cute niece Yami with him. She played for a bit, and after a while, Brian took her back home. Since he didn't live far from the park he came back within a few minutes and we chatted the rest of the time. As the sun started to set, it was time to leave and we exchanged numbers and he offered to walk me home. Not too long after we met, we became a couple and are here 11 years later eagerly waiting to get married.

The Proposal

Labor Day weekend in 2021 Brian, his parents, and I took a quick trip to Miami. While we were there we enjoyed the beach, restaurants, and dancing. The second day into our trip Brian was eager to get out of the hotel with everyone. His parents on the other hand wanted to relax and take a nap. So, we headed to the beach. Right when we got there it started storming and pouring rain. We decided to wait it out under the lifeguard station. After it calmed a bit we walked back to Oceanview Drive to look for his parents. After about an hour of calling and waiting for them, we decided to head back to the beach. After about a minute of being in the water, a photographer approached us asking us if we wanted a pic. I said no thank you, and he was on his way to ask more people for pics. Brian asked me why I said no and I told him well we can take a pic, but you're going to have to go get him. As shy as Brian is, he worked up the courage to go chase down the photographer who was already a ways away. They came back and we did our shoot. At first, we took some normal pics, but the photographer wasn't having it. He said, " I need something more. I need some action". That's when Brian replied, "Oh you need action?!" And that's when he pulled out the ring, dropped to one knee, and asked me to marry him. That moment was so beautiful and perfect. The sun was shining through the clouds, casting a double rainbow behind us, and it felt as if we were the only ones on the beach. God knew what he was doing by sending us a random photographer to capture our special moment.
