It all began in July 2023. Bridgette had recently moved to Greenville and started her new job in the Emergency Department at St. Francis Downtown. Luke, meanwhile, was working with Greenville County EMS. One evening, Luke was dispatched to help a sweet little memaw who had fallen and injured her leg. She requested to be taken to St. Francis, and that’s exactly where Luke brought her. Fate, and the ER room assignments, placed the patient in one of the rooms Bridgette was overseeing. From the moment Bridgette saw Luke, she noticed his beautiful eyes and great smile. The moment he left, she leaned over to her nurse friends and spilled the details. Their coworkers picked up on the spark immediately and started plotting ways to set them up. What they didn’t factor in was Luke’s unique combination of stubbornness and shyness. For seven months, Luke couldn’t work up the nerve to speak to Bridgette. And Bridgette, equally flustered, would literally duck out of sight whenever her coworkers warned her that Luke had just brought in a patient, her face turning cherry red at the mere sight of him. Then came January 6th which happens to be Bridgette’s mom’s birthday. Both Luke and Bridgette found themselves at a work party, strategically standing at opposite ends of the kitchen, doing everything possible to avoid eye contact. But Crown Royal had other plans. With a little liquid courage, the silence was finally broken, and in just a few conversations, a strong connection was formed. Their relationship officially began. Within a month, Luke was so certain about Bridgette that he told his mom, “I’m going to marry this girl.” Over the next year, Bridgette stood faithfully by Luke’s side as he balanced working full-time as an EMT while tackling full-time Paramedic school—until his graduation in May 2025. Luke returned the favor when Bridgette convinced him that their dog, Bo, needed a little sibling. Enter Riley, the energetic puppy neither of them knew they couldn’t live without. After a year and a half of laughter, extra long shifts, dog walks, and endless support, Luke proposed during a beach trip to Atlantic Beach, NC—surrounded by family, close friends, and of course, Bo and Riley. It was the perfect start to the rest of their story.
