A historic Houston neighborhood where most of our recommendations can be found. It's home to the University of St. Thomas, the Rothko Chapel, the Menil Gallery, and many many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and vintage stores. Various websites describe Montrose as "quirky," "artsy," "eclectic," "eccentric," and "quaint." All these might be true, but really the only thing that matters is that Montrose is one of the few genuinely walkable places in Houston.
The Menil Collection is a museum and neighborhood of art spanning 30 acres in the heart of Houston, Texas. The main gallery building anchors the campus and is surrounded by four additional museum buildings: the Menil Drawing Institute; Cy Twombly Gallery; Richmond Hall, which features an installation by artist Dan Flavin; and the Byzantine Fresco Chapel. Bridget spent many afternoons here as a student at the University of St. Thomas.
The Rothko Chapel is a non-denominational chapel in Houston, Texas, founded by John and Dominique de Menil. The interior serves not only as a chapel, but also as a major work of modern art. On its walls are fourteen black but color-hued paintings by Mark Rothko.
