The Animas River Trail is just over 10 miles of paved trail running all the way through town on the Animas River. Rent a bike, take a walk or just sit by the river and enjoy. This is one of our favorite places to spend time in Durango. You can download a free map with the link below.
Our favorite place to spend the day or night relaxing. The Durango Hot Springs was just recently remodeled and it has over 20 pools to soak in (including a family-friendly area). We highly recommend this as a stop on your trip.
A perfect place to spend a hot August day. Lake Nighthorse is located just 5 minutes from downtown. Boats, kayaks, and SUP's are available to rent at the boat dock.
There are several great breweries in Durango. If you are looking to relax on Saturday and walk around town, you can't go wrong with a pint at Steamworks, Carver or SKA Brewery.
If you are looking for a quick day trip, Mesa Verde National Park is just 45 minutes away from Durango by car. It is home to a number of Ancestral Pueblo cliff dwellings and is definitely worth the trip!
Durango lies on the southern border of the 2 million-acre San Jan National Forest. Needless to say, there are virtually unlimited options for hiking, biking, fishing, etc just out our back door. For specific trail recommendations, we recommend using apps called TrailForks or Hiking Project. But of course, reach out to Bridget or James for our favorites!
Purgatory Resort is Durango's local ski area. In the Summer, they offer lots of fun activities including scenic chairlift rides, an alpine rollercoaster, lift-service downhill mountain biking and hiking.
The Durango Train is a steam train that takes you from downtown Durango into the mountains via the old mining route to/from Silverton. This is a great way to spend the day and experience Durango's history and landscape.
