Guests of The Cloister can book a round of golf at one of the three courses at The Lodge at Sea Island. There is also a public course at Sea Palms. Advanced reservations at both are recommended.
Explore the public beaches near the lighthouse and look for the more than 100 nests of sea turtles that are homes to over 9,000 hatchlings per year. Built in 1736 to protect the new colony Georgia from the Spanish in Florida, the fort now stands as a national monument. https://www.nps.gov/fofr/index.htm
The structure was rebuilt in 1884 after the original church was destroyed in the Civil War. The grounds contain a cemetery with graves of famous Georgians. Open for tours Tuesday-Sunday, 2-5 pm.
