The bride and groom will be wearing traditional Indian clothes and our guests are more than welcome to do the same! If you plan on arriving early to India before the wedding, you might have some time for some shopping! There are also some shops in the US, depending on where you live, you might be able to shop ahead of time. At the very least, check out online (we will try to find some good links)!
It is going to be warm, in the 70s & 80s. Pack light clothes, but shy away from shorts (you will stick out like a sore thumb). Whenever we travel to a new place, we pack medications such as imodium, tylenol, probiotics, antihistamine, and nasal decongestant. On that note, look into any immunization you might need to get before you travel. Whenever I travel, I also bring some wet wipes, or tissues to have handy. Don't forget the hand sanitizer!
South Indian food is typically spicy! There are nuts in a lot of Indian food (let us know if you have any allergies). Drink bottled water while in India, not the tap water. When you order a coffee, there will be milk in it (FYI for our lactose-intolerant friends). We are going to provide plenty of food at the events!
First, the most important thing is to have an open mind and be willing to try new things while living in and learning about a new culture. Greeting people with a "namaste" is great! Take off your outdoor shows while in people's homes (maybe pack flip-flops for indoor shoes). Be respectful to elders, you can address elder women as "auntie" and elder men as "uncle."
Yes! Harsha and Bridget have loved these shows/movies/documentaries: Ugly Delicious (Netflix), Season 2, Episode 2: “Don’t call it curry” Raja Rasoi Aur Anya Kahaniyan (translates to: Kings, Cooks and Their Stories) on Netflix BBC The Story of India with Michael Wood (TV docu-series, Amazon Prime)
YES!! First off, we are planning on live-streaming our India wedding ceremony on Dec 30th. Secondly, we are having an American wedding celebration in Massachusetts, in June 2022 (with an even larger guest list)! We know that traveling to India might not be possible for many of our loved ones, but we are hoping we will see you in June 2022 to celebrate again!
