It was a setup. Two of our friends, Dave and Chanelle had tried for some time to play matchmaker for the two of us and for a long time Sam resisted.  There was always a reason for the two of us to not meet; the timing just didn’t work, or Sam thought Roger was too weird (She was right for the record but what she didn't know about was how charming he could be or that their weirds would match).  At any rate, one fateful evening the stars aligned…along with the flowing wine. Chanelle tricked Sam into coming to hang out with just a small group of friends, you know…her, Dave, Katie, Bill, annnndddd Roger. Years of scheming had finally paid off and the fix was in.  The night was filled with video games, movies, and walking to get frozen yogurt.  Which, if you know Sam, two of the things she’s not fond of are video games and Roger eating any sort of dairy product. None of these things seemed to be working and even though Roger tried to show his toughness by assaulting a defenseless telephone pole (he’s come a long way, folks).  Eventually, Chanelle was able to tear Roger away from a lively film debate to join Sam on the couch where we talked for hours (and watched the beach scene from Saving Private Ryan…don’t ask) and eventually decided to give the relationship a try. Years later, it’s remarkable how clear that night still is despite the alcohol and excitement involved.  That night is one of the most important nights of our lives and we will be forever grateful for the not-so-subtle setup and the years we’ve had ever since. We really haven’t looked back and love the little family we have and all the wonderful adventures we've gotten into over the last decade. When you're spending time with one of your favorite humans on this earth, menial tasks can become fun and we can't wait to see what other fun we can create.
