They were college freshmen. Scott told Alyssa how much he liked her "Moulin Rouge" presentation, and Alyssa wrote her number on his dorm-room whiteboard. This lead immediately to... friendship. For 3 years. It only took a seemingly platonic date to the show "First Date" to make them realize that perhaps they could be something more.
