Travel Note
DUBLIN: You will probably find the most options flying into Dublin, especially if wanting to take a direct flight. It is a 2.5 hour car journey (longer by train or bus) to the Markree Castle. KNOCK AIRPORT: Ireland West Airport (Knock) is a good option if taking an indirect flight. It is a 35-40 minute car journey to the castle. BELFAST: Another option if taking an indirect flight. It is about the same distance to the castle as Dublin.
Flight
LAX to Dublin is the only direct flight and the least hassle, but expect to pay more than the indirect flights. (This flight stopped during covid, but i'm keeping an eye out because I believe they will resume it again one international travel opens on July 19th).
Flight
Skyscanner.com will offer more affordable options for those who do not need or want a direct flight. Most will involve flying into London with a connecting flight to either Dublin, Belfast or Knock.
Hotel
There are limited rooms at the castle. Once everyone has RSVP'd, we will let you know the availability at the castle. There is additional space on the castle grounds in the Markree Homefarm Apartments (1-4 bedroom apartments).
Hotel
These apartments are on the estate, only a 5 minute walk to Markree Castle. They are spacious and have kitchens. Use 011 to dial out of the country. email: info@markreehomefarm.ie
Rental Car
Please be aware if renting a car that Ireland has ZERO TOLERANCE for drinking and driving. Not even 1 drink. This is a great family run business. Their customer service is excellent and they have very competitive rates. I talked to Ann in the office and she gave me a reference for people to use to ensure they'd get the best rate for anyone attending the wedding. They are wonderful to deal with & will make the process as easy as possible. REFERENCE: Niamh Dudgeon/Brianne Rice Wedding Ireland September 2021 Email address: ann.hamill@hamills.com
Train
One of the team at the castle strongly recommends using the train over the bus - she frequently uses this herself. There is a bus (Airlink 747 Express) that leaves the airport terminal every 10mins that will bring you to Connolly Rail Station in the city, (approx 20mins). There will also be taxis outside the airport terminal that can take you to Connolly Station too. You would take the Dublin to Sligo line and get off at Collooney Station (do not go all the way into Sligo), then the castle is only a 2 mile taxi ride away. Taxis should be available at Collooney station, but if not, the castle are happy for you to contact them and they will get one sent to you.
Travel Note
There is a bus straight from Dublin airport to County Sligo (Route 23). You will get off 2 stops before Sligo at Collooney Bus Stop and from there take a 2 mile taxi ride to the castle. You should be able to hail a taxi, but if not you can contact the castle and they will help you to get one.
