We met the old fashioned way - through a mutual friend. Our phone numbers were given to each other and we chatted for a few weeks before deciding it was time to meet in person for the first time. We set up our first date to get Starbucks and visit an art museum. We hit it off really well while getting coffee, but then we both got lost trying to find our way to the art gallery, and after trying (and failing) to figure out how to find each other again in downtown Fort Wayne, we almost gave up and ended the date early. Thankfully we did not give up, because it was at the art gallery where the real connection happened. The conversation over coffee was nice, but asking who your favorite Power Ranger is or what Hogwarts House you belong to isn't exactly ground-breaking. But being in the art gallery brought out our inner art nerdiness and *that* was a good first real look into each others' characters. Neither of us were too brave enough to say it that day, but we both admitted to leaving that first date knowing that we'd be in this relationship for the long haul.
I knew the proposal was coming - I had picked out my own engagement ring and had it delivered to my house before I handed it off to Luke. But I did not know the when or the where. I had my suspicions, of course. One of Luke's and my favorite things to do were to take drives or visit local parks and wander around, enjoying the scenery. But one park in particular Luke suddenly stopped wanting to visit, and when I asked him why, he said that he was "saving it for a rainy day." Fast forward a month or two and Luke tells me that we're "going on a drive this Friday." Of course we end up going to this park where we hadn't been for months. And wouldn't you know it, it was also raining that day. We walked through rain and snow and ice and slush to get to the gazebo where he first asked me to be his girlfriend. Only this time he had another, bigger question to ask me.
