It all began in July 2013… Kevin and Brianna met during a one-week summer program at Binghamton University. Neither of them knew it at the time, but that week would change their lives forever. Many of our close friends know the story well, and some were even there to witness our first interaction. For those who don’t, here’s a quick recap: As soon as Brianna saw Kevin, she knew he was her type: 1) tall 2) light 3) and handsome. The fact that he wanted to pursue medicine was just the icing on the cake. Determined to catch his attention before the week ended, Brianna devised a plan. It involved getting everyone's phone number, dressing up for the talent show, and hosting a party on the final night. Kevin definitely noticed her efforts, but he was happy to play along. At the party, he volunteered as the DJ, they talked all night, and he even taught her how to bachata for the first time. Before heading home, Kevin waited at the front entrance to say their goodbyes, and from there, the texting and phone calls began. Both secretly counted down the days until they could reunite at school. After the first week of freshman year, Kevin asked Brianna out—and here we are, 12 years later, about to take the next step in our journey. Their relationship faced the ultimate test after graduating from Binghamton University in 2017, when they embarked on an 8-year-long long-distance relationship. Brianna went off to medical school at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, while Kevin pursued his master's degree in biomedical sciences at Drexel University. Despite the distance, they made it work—syncing their test schedules, planning visits, FaceTiming every night, and spending holidays together. Though they hoped to be together by August 2021, life had other plans, and their medical school and residency program took them 1,000 miles apart. But through countless flights between Iowa and New York, they continued to travel, explore new restaurants, watch their favorite shows, and build their relationship. Their love is a true testament to resilience and commitment, and we can’t wait to share the next chapter of our story with all of you.
