HER STORY I was sitting on my couch when I first laid eyes on Henry. My friend Michele posted a picture of this fiiiiiiiiine man with muscular arms on her Instagram. I immediately texted her to find out who this mystery man was. She mentioned that Henry was from Phoenix, AZ and in town visiting her now husband Kofi for the weekend. She also mentioned that he would be a groomsman at her wedding the was coming up a few weeks later. I decided that I should build some rapport with him prior to the wedding and asked Michele to give Henry my number. He texted me a few days later and we immediately had a great connection. I shared with him that I was looking to move somewhere warmer and had applied to a job in Texas. During my interview, I learned that the company would be opening in Phoenix, AZ and they wanted me to join the team there. I accepted! I called Henry to tell him that 1) I was not stalking him and 2) that I would be moving to Arizona in a month. From the first day I stepped foot in Arizona, Henry made me feel at home and he has been my favorite place ever since. HIS STORY If you have made it here, then I can safely assume you have heard the “How We Met Story: The Brianna Version”. Now I finally get to tell my version of what has transpired the last couple of decades. I met Brianna at Roosevelt High School, although she has no recollection of this. It was a bright sunny spring day. I had just finished listening to a delightful World History class. (I have to say delightful because my dad was a history professor). As I walked past one of the permanent temporary buildings or “temps” situated on the back side of the school, I saw this cheerleader with a beautiful smile coming out of the stairwell. I took a deep breath and uttered the word “hi”, but to my surprise, she walked past me like I wasn’t even there. In the slang of 2008, “she curved me”. Fast forward to 2021. I decided to visit my friend Kofi in Denver, whom I have known since kindergarten days in Ghana. After returning to Phoenix, he called one day to tell me I had to meet one of his now wife’s friends. At first, I was hesitant, but I decided to call anyway. Little did I know God had plans for me, for us. In my first conversation with Brianna, we found out we both grew up in Maryland, we lived in PG county, and we went to Roosevelt High School! As soon as she said that I realized she was the cheerleader from the stairwell that tried to curve me. Keyword: tried. Ladies and gentlemen, she tried, but she failed, and here we are!
