We didn't initially remember correctly how we met until a few weeks after we started dating. Originally believing I had met him through a woman he was previously dating, it turns out we actually met doing a dance set choreographed by a mutual friend of ours for a choreographer showcase back in 2010. Brian and I spent about three years as nothing more than acquaintances with several mutual friends and only ever really seeing each other at different dance events over the years. We reconnected when he was teaching a class at Broadway Dance Center that I went to, he did not remember my name, but we ended up chatting after class and eventually he asked if I wanted to grab coffee the next day (a Sunday)- which turned into an invitation for wine- I was supposed to take a ballet class that afternoon and needless to say that after spending several hours together, I never made it to class, there was a kiss goodnight, and nearly four years later we're getting married :)
We had just moved into OUR first apartment together, as he had previously moved into my place. It was easily the nicest, biggest, most homey apartment made of dreams that either one of us had ever lived in New York City and we were excited to make some new memories and build our home. It was the night of our 3rd anniversary, and after meeting up with me after a show that Thursday night, we went to grab drinks with some friends before heading home. Initially he had wanted to propose onstage after our bows but when logistics didn't work out, he chose a more personal and private proposal that just the two of us could share. On our first walk home together to the new place, he stops me in the middle of the street up the block from our apartment made of dreams- a street that we love because it has a really great view of the city and empire state building and one we had stopped to admire before. He proceeds to read aloud to me, one of the most beautifully written proposals I'd ever heard and while I spent most of it trying to figure out if this was what I thought/hoped it was or if it was just a beautiful anniversary sentiment, it was to my joyful surprise that after a couple nervous hand-in-the-pocket fake outs, he finally presented the most perfect ring, asked me the most beautiful question, and changed our lives for the better forever.
