We exchanged messages and made plans to meet up, but those plans felt too far away. So, Brian decided to just start driving, and that impulse set roots for us today. We met at Lake Lefferts in Matawan as a storm rolled in, watching lightning over the water and talking as if we already knew each other. When Rebecca worried out loud about lightning strikes, Brian said, “I think I already did.” It was perfectly cheesy. Quickly, we discovered we shared the same humor, favorite bands, go-to movie quotes, and the same authors and poets. We wandered gardens and watched bunnies share a leafy snack. We’ve watched countless sunsets, a few impossible skies, and even saw the aurora borealis together, right on the beach. We traded poetry books without knowing what the other had chosen and *somehow* gave each other books written by poets who were married to each other. We did the math. There's ~0.02% chance of that happening. Somewhere along the way, we started saying, “All because that one dinosaur ate that other dinosaur,” our shorthand for the idea that this connection had been quietly lining itself up for a long time. It may seem like we chose each other quickly, but it took our whole lives getting here. We’re grateful to celebrate that with you.
