Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to deviate from our original wedding plans and instead held an intimate ceremony on the Oregon coast. Only Katy's sister Alyssa (our newly-certified officiant!), her husband Josh (our skilled videographer!), and our professional photographers were in attendance. It was an incredible day filled with love, laughter, and a surprise RAIN!! They say rain at your wedding is good luck, well Katy & I must be extremely lucky!! We'd love to share more of our story with you in person at our wedding celebration and hope to see you there! We completely understand if, at this time, you may not be able to attend in person. On July 20, 2019, Katy & I decided to go backpacking on Mount Hood. I had told Katy how beautiful Paradise Park is when the wildflowers are in full bloom so she was very much looking forward to seeing it in person. The trail is about 14 miles round-trip, going up-and-over two valleys, so it's no easy trek. During the hike Katy even sarcastically joked, "You better be proposing at the end of this!" ¹ After a few hours of hiking, we made it! We were excited to set up camp and to start relaxing with some beverages and photo-ops. After a little snag (our tent somehow broke during the hike²), we set up camp, grabbed the tripod and went looking for a spot to take photos. This area gets very crowded in the summertime because of how scenic it is, but after a bit of searching to avoid people in our shot, we finally found the perfect spot³! I set up the tripod and we began taking self-timer pictures. After taking a few, I said ok, one-more silly photo. I pressed the timer on the camera, and Katy (the model that she is) immediately strikes a pose. The camera clicks away, then I turned to her. I said some sweet things, got down on one knee, and Katy looked shocked⁴! I pulled out the ring from my pocket and Katy clasped her hands over her mouth. She said yes and we both were elated⁵! Little did Katy know that the camera was recording whole time⁶! It's a day we will always remember, and now we're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you all. Can't wait to see everyone in Portland! Katy's footnotes: 1. I noticed that Brian let out a small nervous chuckle at this, which seemed slightly suspicious, but I didn't think anything more of it -- I was too excited to explore the gorgeous area with him! 2. I was very proud that my all-purpose duct tape came in handy! 3. It was also close to sunset, so the scenery was even more beautiful than before! 4. She was! 5. WE WERE! 6. Clever move, Brian ;)
