How We Met

Which story did you hear again?

Now that we're getting married, I think it's time to make sure we all have the same story. When we first started dating, we told 2 different stories, depending on who we were talking to, about how we met. SO, to make sure we're all on the same page, here's the real story- we both worked for the same company but we were on different teams. However, our desks happened to face each other so that from across the office, any time one of us looked up, we would see the other person. Because of that, we both obviously knew who the other one was and could easily recognize them. So here's the part not everyone knows- we actually matched with each other on Bumble back in May 2019 and THAT'S how we actually started talking. We left the Bumble part out mainly when telling our families about how we met, I guess just because it usually comes with a negative connotation. We both still say we met at work because that's definitely where our relationship grew (even though we had to hide it from our bosses- unsuccessfully I might add). So technically we met at work, but also we met on Bumble....ya know?

The Proposal

01.08.2020

We went to Maui, Hawaii over New Year's in 2020 and honestly I knew the proposal was coming the entire trip. He waited until the end of the trip though just to torture me I think. So anyway, with only a couple days left in Hawaii, Brian finally told me that he made us dinner reservations and then panicked that he didn't have "nice enough" shoes to wear to dinner (keep in mind he had been wearing flip flops to every single nice restaurant for the entire week so why did he suddenly need to scramble for "nice shoes"?) When dinner time rolled around, we had to walk about 20 minutes on this path along the beach to get to the hotel and it was so obvious that we were both so nervous knowing what was about to happen. This 20 minute walk was so awkward it was like it was our first date or something! We both knew what was going on so neither of us knew what to say. Finally, as we got close to the restaurant, we turned a corner and I see this man with a camera hiding in a rose bush (have to give this guy credit here- he was literally IN a rose bush full of thorns trying his best to hide the camera from me). Then Brian started his speech about our relationship, our future, and the moment he knew he wanted to marry me. I felt so overwhelmed that I was standing next to the beautiful Hawaii water, with the most incredible man asking me to spend my life with him that I literally was at a complete loss for words. I can't even explain how amazing that moment felt. After dinner, we went back to the hotel and everyone there was cheering for us as the performer sang the song "Marry Me". It was so perfect and forever will be one of my favorite days.
