Question

What airport do I fly into?

Answer

The closest airport to Guanacaste is Liberia International Airport (LIR), also known as, Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport. There are direct flights from Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Charlotte, and Chicago. Outside of those cities, you will need to take a connecting flight.

Question

Do I need a passport to go?

Answer

Yes! Make sure if you have one it is UpToDate!

Question

How does money work there?

Answer

While credit cards (Visa) are accepted almost everywhere, it's still best to have local currency. We recommend ordering Costa Rican colón from your bank. You can also exchange your USD for colón at the airport, but the exchange rate is not as good as it is from a bank. That being said, USD is also accepted most places. Major credit cards like Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Costa Rica, some places may not accept them. American Express and Discover are also accepted at some businesses, but less frequently.

Question

Will my phone work in Costa Rica?

Answer

Check with your local provider for phone options. Some carriers will have international plans that you can purchase ahead of time. For example, with AT&T, you can use your phone for $10 for every 24 hours of service. You can also opt to not get an international plan and just use your phone via Wi-Fi connection at the hotel which is free.

Question

What do I need to remember to pack?

Answer

Top 2 things: Passport and Sunscreen. We will basically be on the equator during their summer and the sun is VERY strong. Always make copy of passport and carry in your suitcase.
