The Proposal

March 28th 2020

The world was silenced & quivering in fear from the world wide pandemic that brought the world to a stop. The ground was wet & the scent of rain hung loosely in the air when Kathy snuck through the front door with a book in hand & warm smile on her face. We had just put the girls down for nap & we both were tired dressed in our parent attire. Brian came out our bedroom with my running shoes in his hand and said, “come on, we’re leaving.” I was quite confused on where exactly we could be headed on such a crappy weathered day especially looking as bummy as I did however, I did not ask any questions. We got in the car & drove quietly to north county in STL county. We got to St.Ferdinand park & drove to a familiar bench & parked. I’d be lying if I said the thought of an engagement didn’t cross my mind since 10 years prior was our 1st date to this exact same park and we sat on the exact same bench that was before us however, I quickly dismissed the idea of a proposal after all I looked a mess & there wasn’t a familar face in sight. If he was not in such good spirits, I honestly would have been worried something was wrong. He grabbed my hand and walked me through the mud in his nike flip flops over to the bench we sat at long ago & wiped it off for me. We sat down & I laid my head on his shoulder. After all the chaos going on in the world, the alone time with him was refreshing. We sat pretty quietly for several moments before he grabbed my hand and said, “we sat here 10 years ago & you’ve been putting up with me ever since so I would like to know (insert visual picture of him guiding me to the edge of the bench & getting on one knee) if you would marry me.” I did not even look at the ring before tears filled my eyes while I hugged him tight whispering yes. We heard strangers from far back yelling congratulations as he put the gorgeous ring on my finger. The fairytale officially was beginning.
