Not too long into our dating relationship, Bekah began taking me along with her on adventures. One of the Bob Goff-esque plans that we were most excited about was the “24 hour day.” It was a day dedicated to Jonathan Ogden’s album Twenty Four: a beat tape with 24 tracks based on the 24 hours in a day. The rules were simple. You had to stay awake for 24 hours, fill the time with fun escapades, and ring in each new hour with the corresponding song. After a few attempts at trying to make this day happen, we finally settled on September 24th (Bekah thinks you can never be TOO symbolic). The day was everything Jonathan Ogden had composed. Absolute magic. 07:00-10:00 Table Rock Beach (Matcha and coffee, Bible and birds, grey clouds and tide pools) 11:00 Bookstore (Spanish latte, kids books “Tear Soup,” secret book club courtyard) 12:00-13:00 Newport Harbor (Commandeered a boat, pirated some Acai bowls, and took a three hour tour) 14:00 Birthday visit to Mr. Morris (Splendor board game and laughs) 15:00-21:00 Zach Winters Concert (Rain, prepping the venue, hosting a show, beautiful music, CELLO) 22:00-05:00 Joshua Tree (Stargazing, moon gazing, the Little Prince, spelunking, struggling to stay awake) 06:00 Sunrise at Arch Rock (The end of the beginning) As we hit hour 24, the final song played to the sun rising, our day came to a close, and I proposed. I said “24 hours with you isn’t enough. I want everything. Will you marry me?” At least, that’s how I imagined the words would sound. Turns out that staying up for 24 hours is incredibly difficult and at 3:00am I found myself urging Bekah to finish off an energy drink. In fact, Bekah wanted to do our morning hike to Arch Rock with her eyes closed. When the moment finally came to propose, my tired brain rambled on a bit, but she said yes, and I’ll never forget that day. Check out the video story version (https://vimeo.com/653910735)
