Once upon a time, a girl with a radiant smile met a boy who may or may not have worked for State Farm. This is their story. “Brie!” Alexa exclaimed, “David & I met a new guy at church. He’s your age. He’s cute!” Alexa smiled, “you have to meet him.” Brie gleamed, “great! What’s his name?” Alexa’s smile drops, “We don’t know.” The following week Brie caught a ride with David & Alexa to church. As they were getting out of the car, the “mystery man” appeared. David introduced Brie to the mystery man, yet, somehow, no one caught his name. Jason? Jeff? Who knew? 2 weeks later at a church membership class, Jake was trying to listen to the class when a bright smile caught his attention. Turning, Jake realized the bright smile catching his attention belonged to a woman. She was familiar, but Jake’s vision isn’t the best (he needs an eye doctor. Ahem...Brie). Jake turned his attention back to the class. “How do I meet this girl?” crossed his mind. At the end of class, he turned his paper into Brie, the girl with the smile! "Hey, It's Jeff right?" Brie asked. The mystery man replied, "No, it's Jake!" "Oh, from State Farm!" Their laughter erupted like sparks from fireworks. Brie learned that her bestie Taylor, who lives in Ohio, had a mutual friend to Jake. Apprehensive, Briana talked to their mutual friend about Jake, “This guy is the real deal. He’s worth being bold for.” A few weeks later at church, Jake was trying to talk to his nephew when something caught his attention at the edge of his peripheral; a radiant smile. Brie’s smile. She was across the busy room. Although he could not see her, he knew it was her... & for a moment time stopped. Weeks passed by without seeing Jake but “he’s worth being bold for,” echoed in Brie's mind. Brie, Taylor, & the Gearys prayed for Jake by name & God’s will. Jake talked to his parents, his best friend Jack, and found himself praying for Brie by name as well. As it goes with romcoms, Jake had questioned if his expectations in a future wife were too high. Did he want too much? But the girl with the smile was making him rethink those questions. Could he have the future he wanted? Could this be real? He thought, “isn’t this ridiculous? I barely know her,” & maybe for any other girl that would have been true, but not for Brie. After a brief investigation (facebook stalking) & intuition, Jake decided this girl, with a beautiful, bright smile, could actually be the one. (spoiler! She is, but we’ll finish the story.) As the summer came to an end, in classic RomCom fashion, Brie was asked to Emcee the Women’s event at church. In the audience, Amanda, Jake’s sister, sat. Amanda called Jake after the Women’s event. Jake expected her to talk about the speaker, the community. Maybe how the event made her feel. However, Amanda talked about the emcee, Brie. “Brie is incredible, she did an amazing job. I was so impressed,” Amanda gushed. Unbeknownst to Brie, she made an impression on Amanda & inadvertently deepened his impression. This is the moment Jake knew he had to get to know the girl with the smile. Jake made a bold move & asked Brie to coffee. They closed the coffee shop down talking, moving outside to picnic tables. They talked until it rained – just like in the movies. But this isn’t a movie. This is their real life, love story. History in the making. Jake & Brie love their story, yet, what they cherish are the small details that only God could have orchestrated. Briana prayed for over a year for David to be the brother in Christ that vetted & introduced her to her future husband. Jake spent years praying that if he were meant to be married, it would be to a woman with a heart for ministry. Taylor prayed for Brie to meet her future husband & somehow was connected to him all the way from Ohio. Every detail reminds them of God’s goodness, which they hope you see from their story too. And yes, Jake is still saved as “Jake from State Farm”, in Brie’s phone.
