At the beginning of our sophomore year, I hosted a game night with a roommate at my apartment and sent invites to everyone in our Christian club. That night, Sam was brought to the game night by his friend Jake. The first time Sam officially met me was as soon as he walked through our door, and I was standing in the kitchen dressed in an all-yellow fisherman uniform that I had recently thrifted. He thought I was the weirdest person he had ever met. I thought he was quiet. I also thought he was older than me, shorter than me, and a runner on the Purdue Track Team. Later I found out I was wrong about all my initial thoughts. Sam still thinks his initial thought was spot on. Then, a few months later into the semester, Sam's friend Eathan wasn't able to come down to Purdue to go to a concert with Sam. Since Sam had a ticket, he texted me randomly and invited me to go to the concert with him. While neither of us called this our first date, this was the moment we were beginning to become interested in each other. Later in the month of October, our Christian club hosted a costume night for our large group. The club went on as normal and I ended up leaving pretty quickly after it was finished. Little did I know Sam was looking for me. He ended up sprinting out of the building to follow me outside. I turned around to find Sam calling my name dressed as a little German boy in his Lederhosen. It was that night I discovered he was much weirder than I thought. When he caught up to me he asked me out on our first official date.
Eight months prior to this date, Sam and I decided to buy tickets to the symphony to watch a movie while the symphony played the soundtrack. We awaited our symphony night for the next few months. Finally, on the day of our most anticipated date night, we dressed in semi-fancy outfits and found a fine dining restaurant near the heart of Indianapolis. We enjoyed a fun and lively conversation at dinner and the most delicious peanut butter pie. [It was so good, and we still have conversations about this pie to this day.] After dinner, we walked to our concert and had an even better time. Even after our concert and on our drive home we were having amazing discussions about our future goals and family. Then, as we were nearing Sam's apartment, he said we should walk to the park across the street and take pictures since we hadn't taken any. When we were at the park, I was rushing to get some photos since it was well past the park's open hours, and I was convinced we were about to go to jail. Finally, Sam suggested I set up a video so we could screenshot photos from the video. Sam was on his knee as I turned around, and he proposed. Sam didn't plan the proposal, so no one knew till we started calling people in the dead of the night to surprise them. Both our mothers thought we were dying or in some serious accident before we actually told them the good news. While it wasn't planned, Sam says it just felt right with how well the night was going.
