Our Story

The very first time Sammy came across Brett, she was with her mom(Stephanie) bringing her dad(Steve) lunch during planting season of 2017. Of course, back roads are confusing and a misturn lead them down a dirt road that Brett happened to be out working at, also planting. As they drove past the field, Sammy and Brett made eye contact, smiled and waved at each other. Of course, the two were curious about each other, but didn’t happen to think much of it. A couple months later lead to Sammy’s birthday where she, her family and friends gathered at Henry’s in Allen, and Brett and his friends happened to "stop by" thanks to her sister (Brittany). The two began talking and spending time together, and the rest is history.

The Engagement

In The Mountains of Colorado

Brett and Sammy planned a little get away vacation to go skiing at Keystone Resort in Colorado. Sammy was absolutely clueless about the plan of proposing, and Brett was nervous as can be. Like any good story, the plan never goes according to how we play it out in our head, over and over. We had a direct flight from Omaha to Denver so without hesitation, Brett had the ring hidden in his luggage. Our plane happened to be over loaded with baggage and random luggage was taken off and did not make the trip. As I’m sure you guessed, both Brett and Sammy’s bags were left behind. Brett had big plans for the night they arrived (romantic night skiing and a planned dinner reservation celebration - which unfortunately did not take place.) Their luggage made it safely late on Friday night/Saturday morning. Plan B fell on Saturday, with the plan was skiing all day. Brett had the ring and thought there was nothing standing in his way now. Long story short, this was Sammy's first attempt at skiing and she quickly figured out this sport is not as easy as it looks. It was a long trek down the mountain the first time, and Brett carried the ring in his pocket all day, never finding the perfect time. (Brett could not get his skis off without Sammy stepping on the back, and obviously could not kneel down with his skis on.) Sunday, plan C, Brett had called early and made a dinner reservation on the mountain top to finally pop the question he’d been waiting to ask the whole trip. When the two got to the gondola to ride up the mountain, staff wasn’t allowing anyone up due to high winds and heavy snow fall. Determined to make it up to the top, as this was our last day of the trip, we waited a couple hours and finally made it up to the beautiful mountain view. Although there were no dinner reservations, or romantic night skiing adventures, Brett finally found the perfect moment on that mountain top to finally ask Sammy to be his wife.
