When we were 14 years old Vanessa asked me to borrow a pen in Ms. Dix's ninth grade English class. Vanessa and I bonded over The Ramones, Romeo and Juliet and Johnny Depp movies during freshman year. Nearly 20 years later, not much has changed. Vanessa has been there for me through good times and bad in my life and I am so thankful for her constant and unwavering support and friendship. Vanessa lives in Montpelier, VT with her husband Miah and adorable kiddos, Camillo and Illiana.
Alaina Hancock

Alaina Hancock is Brett’s amazing daughter. She did not ever have to like me, but welcomed me from the very start and graciously allowed me into her life. She is a total rock star: a member of the Naval ROTC unit at her high school and on track to graduate with an associates degree before she steps foot in a college. I am grateful to be connected to such a bright and motivated young woman and I have every confidence in the world that she will do remarkable things in life!
Ashley Kempson

Ashley and I like to joke that we were a bit skeptical of each other before we became friends in 2010. Thankfully we took a chance and have been kindred spirits ever since. Ashley is my go-to friend for a good theme party and antiquing. She is generous, caring, and makes me laugh endlessly. Thankfully she has graciously put up with my antics for a decade. We’ve made countless memories and had a ton of fun along the way. Ashley lives in Crystal City, VA with her husband and groomsman, Thomas

Charlotte and I met through mutual friends in college and quickly bonded over Beauty and the Beast, Mario Kart, a love for McDonald’s, and movie dates. We’ve thankfully remained close through the years, despite the miles between us. My ideal travel buddy, Charlotte has a love for exploring new places and has driven across the country several times. Because she is my spirit animal. Charlotte lives in Seattle, WA with her husband, Noah, and dog, Lou.
Michael Williams

Michael is who I want to be when I grow up. We met my freshman year of college, quickly bonded when we went to a residence hall association conference together in Cincinnati, and for some reason never hung out in college again! Then, almost if by fate, we reunited in DC in 2009. Michael is my scary movie buddy, constant cheerleader, and smoothie bowl soul mate. His big heart, honesty, ambition and pragmatism consistently make me want to be a better person. Michael lives in Crystal City, VA with his husband Matthew and dog, Cooper.
Kyle Hancock
Best Man
Kyle is Brett's younger brother. When he's not making us laugh he enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and cooking. He makes an amazing venison burger! Kyle is a fantastic uncle to Brett's daughter, Alaina, and is always willing to pitch in a helping hand at any event. Katie is particularly grateful to Kyle for allowing her to use his kayak, even though she wasn't quite confident she could do it.

Kenny is Brett's dad. He enjoys playing softball and watching the University of Kentucky basketball team and M.A.S.H. Not only did Brett inherit his dad's accent, but also his fantastic sense of humor!

Thomas is the husband of Katie's friend and bridesmaid, Ashley Kempson. Thomas enjoys WWE, video games, working out and the NBA. Katie and Ashley are both grateful for their friendship, as it gives them more time to hang out while the boys keep each other entertained. :)
Maurice Lewis

Maurice Lewis is one of Brett’s oldest friends. They have known each other since 7th grade! Over twenty years later, Maurice keeps Brett looking good as he is also Brett’s barber. Maurice is a talented hair stylist so if you need to look good, come talk to Maurice! Or if you just want to hear some stories about Brett’s horrible fashion sense in middle school.
Vincent Dexter

Dexter and Brett have worked together for many years at Patient First. They both enjoy pop culture, video games, and movies. Dexter is always up for an adventure and recently joined Katie and Brett on a trip to Las Vegas. Dexter is a great friend and especially loves Brett and Katie’s dog, Lando, who calls him Uncle Dexter.
