We met at a YoungLife camp in Brevard, NC, after both deciding to spend a year in their year-long internship program. Ireland was hired months before the internship started, while Brett was a last minute hire- the camp was needing another boy intern and he was already working there that summer, so he decided to stay...good choice Brett! For the first 3 months of the internship we worked side by side in the housekeeping department, together everyday, and spent most off-days together as well. Not sure we were supposed to be spending so much time together, but here we are! Less than halfway through the year and we knew there was something more than friendship here...only problem was, no dating other interns allowed! We couldn't be more thankful to our friends/fellow interns who stayed oh so patient with us while we "didn't date" for the remainder of the year...you know who you are! All jokes aside, being in a friendship and close community for the whole year before dating gave us the opportunity to build a foundation that we are so thankful to Jesus for today! During the internship, Brett told Ireland that as soon as we were done, he'd be on the first flight to Texas, and he did exaclty that! We spent a week in Austin going on all the first dates we talked about and dreamed of and the rest is history!
