Swamp Rabbit trail
The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a popular 28-mile paved, multi-use greenway traversing Greenville County, SC, along the Reedy River and former railroad corridors. It connects downtown Greenville to Travelers Rest, offering a scenic, safe route for biking, walking, and running. The trail is renowned for connecting parks, breweries, cafes, and neighborhoods, making it a vibrant community hub. Perfect for a scenic walk while visiting downtown!
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate
Looking for something to do with the kiddos? Check out the Children's Museum! This is also located downtown Greenville! It is one of the largest children's museums in the country and the first to be Smithsonian-affiliated, TCMU offers three floors of interactive exhibits designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning in children ages 0–12.
Greenville Zoo
About the Zoo: At the 14-acre Greenville Zoo, you can visit wildlife from around the world any day of the week. Curious orangutans, cuddly red pandas, majestic lions, and many more call this zoo their home. Every visitor has their favorite animal, but the giraffe exhibit is special to locals.
Unity Park
-Recreation & Play: Features four distinct playgrounds (including the large TD SYNNEX playground with climbing towers) and a splash pad open May 1–October 1. -Accessibility & Trails: A key stop on the 23-mile Swamp Rabbit Trail with additional internal walking paths and seven bike rack stations. -Amenities: Features include a welcome center, restrooms, first-aid station, and a basketball court. -Location & History: Opened in 2022, it unified former segregated spaces, creating a welcoming green space near downtown. -Food & Atmosphere: Located near food options like The Commons and features scenic pedestrian bridges crossing the Reedy. There are a few spots to grab a beer and some food and enjoy the weather and scenery! Perfect to bring the family to if you're wanting something more laid back.
Bridgeway Station
BridgeWay Station is a vibrant, European-inspired mixed-use development in Mauldin, SC (near Greenville) that serves as a "new town center". It is highly walkable and characterized by its old-world Italian architecture—featuring terracotta roofs, iron fixtures, and cobblestone-style paths—combined with modern apartments, restaurants, shops, and a central piazza. This is near our house in Simpsonville! This place has a large outdoor area as well and is kid friendly.
City Scape Winery
One of our favorite local wineries! City Scape Winery, located in Pelzer, SC, near Greenville, is a 12-acre family-owned, working vineyard and winery offering handcrafted, small-batch wines. It provides a rustic, scenic escape with indoor/outdoor seating, a covered porch, a dog-friendly patio, and on-site food options, including a food truck. They also have a pig named Vino for the kiddos to look at and goats in the back!
Sugar Tit Moonshine Distillery
Sugar Tit Moonshine Distillery in Reidville, South Carolina, is a family-owned micro-distillery crafting small-batch moonshine and whiskey in a historic 1857 apothecary building. Known for "The Sweetest Shine in the South," it offers tours, tastings, and a variety of flavored spirits distilled six times for smoothness.
Asheville
Asheville is a city in western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s known for a vibrant arts scene and historic architecture, including the dome-topped Basilica of Saint Lawrence. The vast 19th-century Biltmore estate displays artwork by masters like Renoir. The Downtown Art District is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists' studios. About an hour drive from Spartanburg if wanting to visit.
