An online dating site brought us together two years ago, in January of 2017. We spent days chatting via text and getting to know each other, finding out we lived only a half a mile apart, joking about being “catfished,” and about Brett wearing a tuxedo t-shirt when we were finally going to meet (foreshadowing to an engagement?). We decided on a casual “first date” (he didn’t wear the tuxedo t-shirt) at a local bar and restaurant in South End Charlotte for a beer. Typical Jen, stumbled on the curb and stepped on Brett’s foot, but nerves quickly melted away and turned into comfortable conversation and laughing over one of our now favorite beers – Jam Session (the name leads to continual puns and inside jokes, even today). Within the first week of dating Brett cooked dinner (bonus points), we did art projects together (more bonus points), and went to a trivia night. We were hooked... our relationship felt like kismet from the start.
During our birthday getaway to Savannah this past Fall, a picnic in the park when we arrived seemed like a perfect way to kick off our vacation. We packed a lunch, a few sparkling beverages and found a quiet spot in Forsyth Park. As soon as we sat down, Brett grabbed my hand and asked me to sit with him. He told me how much he loved me (and some other wonderful things) and pulled a ring box from his pocket. I threw my arms around his neck, and of course, said YES (with a few happy tears). It couldn't have been a more perfect moment. ...Our journey together has been full of wonderful surprises, sharing in hopes and dreams, support, fun, laughter, and love. We are so grateful and happy that all of you can share in our Happily Ever After.
