Brent and Jessica met in Baton Rouge in 2014. They had both moved to Baton Rouge for new jobs the prior year, and were still figuring out how to adult. Their first date was a trivia night (side note: trivia night is a great first date idea) at Red Star Bar (now called The River Room) in downtown Baton Rouge. After connecting over a love for obscure 90's Nickelodeon references, a second date was inevitable. Once the Harry Potter references started rolling around date five, they began to fall for each other. The rest is history!

After getting settled in Boston, Brent began planning to propose to Jessica. They had both talked about going on a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine and Brent knew that would provide an excellent place to make it happen. During the drive up, Jessica thought that a proposal could be coming. She expected if it did happen, it would be at the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak in Acadia and a spot known for proposals (also the spot where the first sunrise to hit the U.S. can be seen for most of the year). They decided to go to watch the sunrise (at 4:48am!!!), and after a perfect moment on top of Cadillac, nothing happened. Jessica then felt the weekend was going as planned and there wouldn't be any surprises. The next morning they hiked to the summit of North Bubble, and Brent offered to take Jessica's picture looking out at Jordan Pond. Jessica handed over her phone for the photo and turned around to take in the view. Brent said he got the picture, and when she turned back around, he was on one knee. Totally caught off guard, it took Jessica a few seconds to realize what was happening. After the initial shock, Brent asked her to marry him and she let out a very excited "of course!'".
