How We Met

Dec 13,2015

Tinder. Swiped right and our lives forever changed. He had a lot of pictures... with fish. She had a lot of pictures... without fish. The conversations quickly went from “How are you?!” to essays of our lives. They went from strangers to non-stop talking to a first date in a blizzard. She said “don’t take me somewhere boring” and he sure didn’t let her down. Second date they kissed in front of the Christmas tree at Capital Mall in Downtown Sacramento. Third date they went dove hunting — the day Courtney forever was termed “Shotgun Girl” by Brent’s mom. Each day moving forward they became closer and closer; including picking up and moving for Courtney’s first job in Sonora, California where they reside today.

The Proposal

August 8th, 2018

Unbeknownst to Courtney, Brent wanted to propose somewhere special in her heart. He chose a weekend getaway trip with friends at Courtney’s family cabin in the Eastern Sierras. He asked Courtney to go on a hike to “prep” for summiting Mt. Whitney in a couple weeks. Friday night he asked a friend at the cabin to make sure no one went on the hike with them the next day. Saturday morning Brent and Courtney both set off towards Horse Tail Falls, where Courtney’s Dad’s ashes are spread. While hiking to the valley, Brent kept asking “are we there yet? How much longer”. The moment they got to the rock where Blane’s ashes were spread they both felt his presence and sat for a moment taking in the silence. After a few moments, Brent reached over to his pack to munch on some snacks. He asked Courtney, “Would you like some apple sauce?” She responded “No, thank you!” He asked “Would you like some trail mix?” She looked at him again and said “No, thank you!” He went on again “Would you like some pineapple?” She looked at him, slightly annoyed saying “No, I’m really okay!” He reached back into his bag, grabbing something else “Would you marry me?!” as he opened a wooden box holding a ring. With instantaneous tears and smiles she responded “YES!”. Now June 8th we ask you to join us on the day that will forever change our lives.
