Our Story Begins..

Amanda, a librarian from Kingwood, Texas, and Brent, a contractor from Spring, Texas, grew up less than ten miles apart. For years, their paths never crossed. In 2022, however, both quietly closed chapters that had shaped and strengthened them, deciding to step forward into something new. When a door opens, it doesn’t move on its own. It swings because of its hinges—small, steady pieces that hold everything together. Without hinges, the door never opens. Without hinges, you never see what’s waiting on the other side. For Amanda and Brent, that hinge was Hinge. In early August, they each downloaded the dating app. Out of countless profiles and possibilities, one simple swipe placed them on the same doorstep. When the door opened, it didn’t just reveal a new chapter—it felt like home. Amanda downloaded the app first. When Brent joined, Amanda’s profile was the first he saw. He sent a respectful (and, he believes, hilarious) message. She responded, and their chemistry was instant—like sodium and chlorine. (Ironically, Amanda cannot stand how much salt Brent puts on his food.) Within hours, they planned their first date at Blōōfin. Amanda jokingly “staked out” the restaurant to ensure she hadn’t been catfished. She hadn’t—though she was surprised when the bearded man from the photos arrived sporting only a mustache. Surprise aside, the date was effortless. They bonded over their shared love of reading—Brent’s wide-ranging interests and Amanda’s love of romance—and conversation flowed as thick as Houston humidity. The evening continued at a local bar during trivia night, though neither heard a single question. Brent briefly worried Amanda’s trips to the restroom signaled an escape plan. It was later revealed she simply has a small bladder. The night ended with their first kiss—one memorable enough to rival fireworks. Three days later came date number two at Crust Pizza. She loved how wholeheartedly he laughed at her jokes; he admired her practicality (including a genuine interest in night-vision goggles). They discovered shared fascinations with true crime, survival skills, and the outdoors—though they mutually agreed hiking in the woods together would not be an ideal third date. After five dates, Brent asked Amanda to be exclusive. She said yes. Over the next three years, their relationship flourished. Brent’s work required travel, and Amanda often flew to meet him. Together they explored new cities, planned road trips, and built a life rich with shared interests: books, puzzles, workouts, coffee shops, trying new foods, and playful competition—especially when Amanda consistently outperformed Brent at puzzles. They introduced each other to new worlds. Brent shared his love of anime and global cultures. Amanda introduced him to British television and The Real Housewives—though he has since been politely banned from commenting during episodes. As the years passed, Brent realized one word no longer felt complete: “family.” He wanted it to include Amanda. After months of planning—and a Thanksgiving week that included a long drive to retrieve the ring—he prepared to propose. Following a beautiful dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse, Brent led Amanda to their favorite place: Barnes & Noble. Though he had meticulously planned every step and written a heartfelt speech, nerves erased most of it. He abandoned the script, forgot his planned path, and managed only a few sentences before dropping to one knee. Amanda, having noticed his complete loss of composure, suspected what was coming. When she said “yes,” Brent’s confidence returned instantly. Their parents and Amanda’s sister, who had been hiding nearby, rushed out to celebrate. The evening ended with joyful calls and messages to loved ones. Today, Amanda and Brent are preparing for their wedding, continuing to grow in love and laughter. Their story is one of new beginnings, brave steps forward, and the belief that sometimes the smallest hinges open the biggest doors.
