Once upon a time a farmer and a hairstylist-in-training met on a dating app. After a few weeks of texting, Hannah and Chad finally went out on a date. They met at 84th Street Pub, halfway between Hopkins and downtown Grand Rapids. After that first date they knew something was different. Their conversation was easy, intentional, and they laughed a lot. About a week later he asked her out to the farm for their second date. He had plans to show her around the farm and have dinner together, but things looked a little different when he called her about 10 minutes before she arrived saying they had to chop hay and fill the silos. So, if she was ok with it, they were going to have to ride in the tractor together for a couple hours. He hung up the phone worried she might hate it. She, however, tried to act casual on the phone but, little did he know, that sounded like the best kind of date to her. See, her dream was to live on a farm someday and marry a farmer... he just didnt know that yet. That night, they went for a Maverick ride all over the fields and shared their first kiss. And she'll always say that was the day she knew she wanted to marry him. And one week later, walking in downtown Grand Rapids, looking at the river, he asked her to be his girlfriend.
A few days before we left for a farm show in Kentucky, Chad’s mom asked if we’d mind delivering a letter to a friend of hers a little outside of Louisville. On our drive down, I told him how excited I was for the week. We were taking our first trip together and spending our first Valentine's Day together. I packed conversation hearts and made him eat the ones that made me think of him, which was pretty much all of them. He kindly took them from me and then spit them out the window. The day we headed out to deliver the letter for his mom, it was the most sunny day. Going on a country drive in Kentucky, on Valentine’s Day, with my very favorite person, how could it get better? When we arrived at a historic village, I asked him "Babe, aren't we meeting at her house?" to which he responded "She works at the restaurant here, but she won't be ready for a bit, so maybe we can go for a walk?" As we walked out into the prettiest spot, with wooden benches looking out over the fields, I pulled him close to hug him and he started to pull away. I tried to pull him close again, but this time he started to get down on one knee and as he did, he opened up a box with the prettiest ring in the world and asked me to be his 'Forever Girl' to which I responded “Yes!”. I then realized the whole plot of delivering a letter for his mom was a setup, and there was only blank pages of paper in the letter. Then I looked up again and realized he had set up photographers to be there for the whole thing. He surprised me big in the most perfect way. I couldn't stop shaking and telling random strangers “We’re engaged! What?! We’re engaged!” I am the happiest I have ever been since meeting Chad. He makes me laugh more than anyone else, and I cannot wait to marry him on August 15th, 2020.
