Travel Note
Lexington is just off Exit 188B on I-81, and, whether north- or southbound, the I-81 corridor has to be one of the most scenic highways this side of the Mississippi.
Flight
Roanoke is about 50 minutes from Lexington by car. It has direct flights to/from: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago (O'Hare), New York City (LaGuardia), Orlando (Sanford), Philadelphia, St. Petersburg-Clearwater, and Washington D.C. (Dulles).
Flight
Charlottesville is about 1h 20m by car. It has direct flights to/from: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago (O’Hare), New York (LaGuardia), and Washington D.C. (Dulles).
Flight
D.C. is about 3 hours away. Dulles is the closest international airport and is probably the best option for those coming from abroad. Both Dulles and Reagan also work for non-international folks if you can get a direct flight to either and prefer a (gorgeous) three-hour drive over having to connect into one of the smaller regional airports.
Flight
There is technically a tiny, tiny airport called Shenandoah Valley Regional, also about 50 minutes away from Lexington. Neither of us know anyone who has ever successfully used this airport for anything. Could be you!
Train
You can also take the Amtrak train to Charlottesville or Staunton. Brenna has done it a number of times!
