It all started in high school… sort of. Dez will tell you, “I liked her back then,” or “I tried to date Brenna back in high school.” Brenna remembers it a little differently—but either way, here we are. While Dez and Brenna technically knew of each other back in high school, their real story didn’t begin until a few years later, when life brought them back together. In 2019, they reconnected in Nashville, TN, for their first official date. Brenna was visiting for a school tour, and Dez was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY, just 30 minutes away. They met up for dinner—and everything just clicked. They decided to give long distance a try, not knowing where it might lead. That one date in Nashville turned into a 3-year long-distance relationship filled with milestones: graduations, COVID, internships, jobs—and countless 8.5-hour drives between Iowa and Kentucky. It wasn’t always easy, but neither of them would change a thing. After Dez got out of the Army, he moved back to Des Moines, until he got the opportunity to go to school in South Carolina. Brenna had done long distance once—and wasn’t about to do it again. So she packed up everything and moved with him. They spent 2.5 years in Hilton Head, SC, where they met lifelong friends who quickly became family - and golfed 5 days out of the week - just how they liked it. In mid-2024, they returned to Des Moines. By this point, Brenna had finally stopped asking Dez about getting engaged (something she’d been bringing up for years). She decided to trust that it would happen at the “right time.” Well, in true Wharff fashion, the “right time” turned out to be November 2024, on a trip to Green Bay, WI, for a Packers vs. Dolphins game at Lambeau Field. If you know the Wharffs, you know they’re huge Packers fans. So it was only fitting that—right outside Lambeau Field—Dez got down on one knee and asked Brenna to marry him. Of course, she said yes. Through the good times and bad, the long distances and drives, the laughs and the golf lessons—they’ve always chosen each other. Now, they can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you!
