Saturday, April 8th, 2023. Great Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
It was our junior year of high school. We had first-period English class together. We ended up sitting at the same table and slowly became friends over time, but nothing more. He had always caught my eye at school, especially on the first day of sophomore year (he looks amazing in a black leather jacket, phew!), but I never knew much about him. Later junior year, I was out sick for a week. He messaged me on Instagram, sliding into those DMs as everyone says, sweetly asking if I was okay and that he missed me at school. That alone just about healed me of my sickness! We talked for a bit on there, then I went back to school. We went from sitting together in class to walking me to class, sitting with me at lunch, giving me hugs, taking me on our first date, and our first kiss in the rain! The rest is history. Later in our relationship, we realized we knew each other long before high school. Not only did we go to the same school in kindergarten, we lived in the same neighborhood, went to first grade together, and then again in fourth grade at a different school. We even ended up in the same driver’s ed class sophomore year of high school. We’ve crossed paths many times in our early years. Now we will be walking on the same path together.
