I have known Christy through various musical connections since we were kiddos. Christy’s Dad was my band teacher in high school and I also played in a punk band with her step-brother, Chad. In the Spring of 2018, there finally came a moment not long after I had moved back to Vermont from Philadelphia. I had just opened a small recording studio and one night, while taking a break from recording, I looked at my phone and saw an Instagram story that caught my eye. It was Christy Wendlandt watching The Sound of Music and drinking wine from a mason jar. The post read, “The single life (of a musical nerd) #masonjarwine.” How interesting, I thought. I had moved back with the intention of essentially being a hermit for a while, but something in me couldn’t resist. I replied, “Mason jar wine is the finest kind.” That turned into a 2-hour conversation involving general catching-up, joking around, and ultimately agreeing to trade guitar lessons for acting lessons. To this day, we have yet to make that exchange. We did, however, also make plans to meet for a drink. I met her in Keene a few nights later. It was raining as I waited to meet her in front of a bar. When she turned the corner, my heart skipped and I knew my hermit days were numbered. The rest is history. -Brendon
A walk downtown will never look the same to me again. It was a Sunday evening in February of 2020 and we had just thrown an epic 90’s party the night before. As the weekend was quieting down, we decided to take a walk to the local food co-op to pick up a few things for dinner. On our way back, I brought up the fact that the date, 02.02.2020 was so rare. Not only was it a palendrome, but the digits added up to my favorite number: 8. I was pretty excited. Just as we reached the sidewalk outside the front of our home, B said, “Hold on one sec,” put our groceries down, put his hand in his peacoat pocket and pulled out his phone. “Oh, are you going to look up the numerology?!” I asked. “Yeah,” he said. (He was fibbing.) The next thing I heard was our song Beyond by Leon Bridges. Then I knew. He pulled out a ring from his other pocket and got down on one knee. Through the happiest tears, B asked me to marry him. I said, “F#*$ yes!” And I couldn’t have chosen a better outfit for the occasion: * Oversized yellow sweatpants * White skater shoes * My favorite sweatshirt with The Office’s Michael Scott on the front and the words, “That’s what she said.” - Christy
