For our four-year anniversary, I surprised Carol with a trip to Disneyland. As far as she knew, it was just a spontaneous getaway to celebrate the two of us—some time to explore the parks, enjoy good food, and make more memories together. What she didn’t know was that I had been planning something much bigger for months. On our second night, we had reservations at Wine Country Trattoria in Disney California Adventure for one of their dinner-and-show experiences. Everything was set up so the moment would happen during the dessert course. As the evening went on, I could barely focus on the food because I knew what was coming. I kept thinking about the moment I would finally ask the question I had been holding onto for so long. Meanwhile, Carol sat across from me enjoying what she thought was simply a beautiful dinner. The air was warm, the lights above us dim and glowing softly over the restaurant. The sweet scent of lemon tiramisu filled the air with every breath. Around us, the sound of laughter from nearby tables mixed with the music and the quiet clinking of glasses. It felt like one of those perfect, peaceful moments where everything seems to slow down. Then it happened. Just before dessert, a camera flashed and time seemed to freeze. I stood up, walked around the table, and dropped down onto one knee. From Carol’s side of the table, the entire world suddenly stopped moving. The room seemed to go quiet as people realized what was happening. There I was, kneeling in front of her, asking her to spend forever with me. For a moment the air stood still as everyone waited. “Yes.” As soon as she said it, the restaurant erupted into applause. Carol’s cheeks flushed red with embarrassment as the entire room celebrated with us, but the smile on her face was impossible to hide. In that moment, nothing else mattered—just the two of us and the promise we had just made. What started as a surprise anniversary trip turned into something far more unforgettable: the moment we promised forever.
