We're so excited to celebrate with you!

We met in April 2020, early on in the pandemic on - you guessed it - a dating app. Haden was a kind and passionate teacher who’d just moved to the Bronx a few short months before the world shut down. And Bre was energetic and enthusiastic about working her way up in entertainment, living in Harlem but “visiting” her parents in Florida while waiting out the indefinite lock down. At first there were many video calls from many states and even more miles away. There were hours of chats until the wee hours about growing up as kids of color in the US and finding pride in our heritage. There were jokes about video games and family dynamics and J. Cole obsessions. And there were also frank conversations… Bre still tells the story that a few weeks in, Haden wanted to “make sure we weren’t talking on the phone too much” and “make sure we were both as interested in each other as the other.” Bre thought he was being a player and keeping his options open. Haden doesn’t remember it that way. Guess we’ll never know…. But then, after a few more weeks, there were plans made to meet in person (!!) as Bre returned to the city. Haden packed a binig (filipino mat or picnic blanket) and a picnic basked of chopped cheeses (traditional hearty Bronx bodega cuisine) to meet in Riverside Park (of “You’ve Got Mail” acclaim) and the two met up for their first (5 hour long) date. And on that day in late May, things really did change forever….
