About Us

It’s June 2020. The world is on pause. On a quiet street in Eagle River, AK, a lonely Starbucks is the only open business. Sam, fresh from Peace Corps and sporting shoulder-length quarantine hair, walks in for an interview. Brekken, back from Australia and putting herself through school, is elbow-deep in lattes. They lock eyes over masks—he panics and offers a high five. Later, after finding her number on an employee sheet, he panics again, and asks her out (platonically) to a different cafe. Over two cups of forgotten coffee, they start to talk. They talk about dreams, failures, family. They talk about anything; they talk for a year. Then, life unpauses: he heads to Philly, she to Phoenix. Despite the distance, they continue to talk—daily, endlessly, hilariously, and, eventually, lovingly. Somewhere, amid all the dialogue, they became best friends. Somewhere, amid all the chatter, she said “yes.” Now, they can’t wait to bring you all into their conversations.
After what felt initially like a short text and later like a way too long text, she agreed to meet him here, to talk about life. After several tries, this would come to be known as their first date

Settling into normalcy, in the break from the chaos of uncertain futures, they built a foundation of friendship, laughter, and inane arguments, spending hours on whether Yung Gravy would ever Grammy

And when she moved to Arizona, or to Argentina, or Washington, there was no question that every dime he had would go to flights to Phoenix, to Buenos Aires, to wherever they could find each other

Until, finally, 3 years of distance later, when he joined her in Seattle, it was as easy as coming home
