Don’t forget your passports and check the expiration dates! Every person traveling needs a passport including children. Check with your mobile provider for travel coverage and roaming fees before departing. The resorts listed offer complimentary Wi-Fi. The Mexican Peso is the official currency, and most restaurants accept credit cards. However, we recommend bringing cash to avoid ATM fees, tip more easily, and take advantage of better cash deals on local activities and shopping. The water in the resort is fully treated and safe, as it is in all the resorts and hotels in and around town. Most restaurants serve bottled water, but their tap water is also purified. Cabo San Lucas is in the Mountain Time Zone. Most key contact people in Cabo speak English, but feel free to practice your Spanish since it is always greatly appreciated!
Shuttle transportation will be provided between the main resort for the sunset cruise and wedding. Taxis are readily available outside the resort, just ask the doorman to confirm the fare in advance as it is more expensive to go places other than downtown; trips to town usually range from $12 to $15 USD. Water taxis from the beach cost about $10 and are a fun, scenic way to get around. Uber is the most budget-friendly option for up to four people, with most rides priced around $5 USD through the app. Villa La Estancia is conveniently located about a 15-minute walk to downtown Cabo and the marina. Cabo is easy to navigate, and there’s no real need to rent a car.
Walmart and Chedraui, a high-end grocery store, are both less than 1.5 miles away. Costco is also nearby, but you will need to bring your membership card if you plan to shop there. For convenience, the on-site Palmita Market offers groceries, a pharmacy, liquor, a deli, coffee, and ice cream. Prices are a bit higher than local stores, but purchases can be charged directly to your villa.
Villa La Estancia and most other resorts in Cabo have 24/7 security at the beach access points and gated resort entrances. Like in any city in the U.S., it’s important to use common sense: stay with friends, avoid walking alone, and don’t get into Ubers or taxis by yourself. The downtown area is also regularly patrolled by local police to help ensure safety.
