But here’s how it really went… Bree and Garrett were introduced through Bree’s college roommate, who happened to be dating a member of Garrett’s band. Bree was skeptical and not exactly taking the setup seriously, but decided to tag along to a show anyway. As the band played their set, Garrett heard someone from the crowd yell, “TAKE YOUR SHIRT OFF!” He had no idea the voice belonged to the very girl he’d had his eye on all night—Bree. Even though it was a cold November night in Kentucky, Garrett didn’t hesitate. He ripped off his shirt and threw it into the crowd, hoping it would find her. After the show, Bree—laughing—returned the shirt. Garrett, never one to miss a moment, grabbed the plastic ring from a water bottle, dropped to one knee, and asked, “Will you marry me and make my stage name Garrett Garrett?” It was over-the-top, cheesy, and absolutely perfect.
