Some will remember this day as Super Bowl 50 but if you ask us, we couldn’t tell you who was playing that night. (We googled it for you; Peyton Manning and the Broncos beat the Panthers). At a Super Bowl party where we only knew the people we showed up with, we quickly found each other at the intersection of the beer fridge and snack table. Although Dan thought the conversation was going well, Jane made it clear her and her friends were leaving soon and would definitely come back before the end of the game. Well Jane never came back to that party. Fortunately for Dan, some of her friends stayed and convinced him to join their kickball team. Fast forward through a few games of kickball—and with some help from Amelia—the first date was a huge success because here we are 5 years and 2 dogs later ready to spend the rest of our lives together.
For those that haven’t heard this story before, it shouldn’t come as a surprise Dan proposed to Jane while hiking one Saturday morning. What will be surprising is the day Dan picked didn’t have the greatest forecast and the weatherman happened to be right. December 12, 2020 was not only cold and raining—Jane will tell you it was sleeting—but the fog was so thick we could barely see 10 yards in front of us, let alone the Manhattan skyline at the top. Scrambling to think of another spot on the hike, Dan was quickly running out of time but remembered there was a spot by a river not far from the end. After reaching the river, and waiting for the slowest solo-hiker to walk away, Dan finally asked Jane to marry him. And with Hudson as her witness, she said yes! It may not have been the perfect day weather-wise, but it made for a great story and we couldn’t be happier.
